John Bowker: one game, one splash

With yet another obscure name surfacing for the "Say Who?" Giants, John Bowker had a nice debut for his big club today. He singled in his first MLB at-bat and then put one into McCovey Cove in his third MLB AB to become the 8th San Francisco Giant to homer in their big league debut, joining Orlando Cepeda and Bobby Bonds for that honor. He was brought up to the big's early today and started in right field. He will share time in the outfield while Dave Roberts recovers from knee surgery over the next two months at least.
Studying his minor league stats he is a career .296 hitter in 1622 minor league AB's. Last year in AA ball he smacked 22 HR's while adding 35 doubles in 522 AB, so there is some pop in that bat too.
Weirder things have happened, so we'll keep an eye on the Giant outfield to see if one of Fred Lewis, Rajai Davis, Eugenio Velez or Bowker can capitalize on their oppurtunity.
As we all know, oppurtunity can be half the battle when it comes to a major league caliber player producing fantasy worthy numbers. One thing thats for sure is that if a player has made it this far they can play.

Sounds like he could be a solid reserve in a 16 team NL only league.
