Volquez Or Cueto

The Rototimes had this to say...

While Johnny Cueto was the hot topic during March drafts, Edinson Volquez has been the most impressive of the two rookies. Volquez improved to 4-0 on Saturday and has a 1.23 ERA in April after seven strong innings against the Triple-A Giants.

Our View: While Cueto has complete command of his arsenal, he's subject to giving up the long ball. Volquez has turned from avoiding contact to essentially being a groundball pitcher. With a GB Rate approaching 60%, he will have much more success at Great American than his rookie teammate.

I happen to agree. What do you think?

I love Cueto. If you watch him pitch you will see that he has that good command, great mound presence, and great stuff. The home runs are tolerable as long as he limits baser runners.

Volquez has a history of command issues. I am not so sure that he has gotten over them in just a matter of weeks. This is why, as much as I love Scherzer and was able to pick him up, my expectations are tempered.

I say let's see how this plays out. I like Cueto the rest of the way.
